Sail and Learn on the Bel Ami

The Bel Ami represents for us a dream to own, sail, and teach aboard a world-class cruising sailboat in our favorite cruising grounds, The Virgin Islands.  Probably nowhere else on earth are there the combinations of land, sea, beaches, and anchorages, all within a climate and people atmosphere second to none. Many cruisers typically have sailed in areas all over the globe, and after they have seen it all, they gravitate back to the Virgin Islands.  The sailing is challenging enough to make it interesting but never bad enough to make one regret leaving the dock.  The waters are protected, the seas gentle, and the wind, 98% of the time, ideal.  Anchorages are plentiful and close enough to each other to keep passages short.  For sailors of average ability and experience, the Virgins represent a great way to spend your vacation with family and friends, including the opportunity to experience a lot of non-sailing entertainment both on the sea and ashore.

We believe the best way to see the Virgin Islands is on a boat.  Resorts are great; some are plush, some quaint but on a boat the experience is different.  The ocean and beaches are at once more accessible; restaurants, resorts, and out-of-the-way places are almost unlimited for your exploration.  No longer are you restrained to only one island where a car can go; all sorts of islands, beaches, and anchorages are accessible from your own floating home.  You are one with the sea and it creatures.  And sailing-harnessing nature's force of the wind - well, it's the passion that sailors are made of.  On the Bel Ami you will experience the Islands as only a sailor can, moving from place to place under the power of the wind.  Here then is our ambition:  We help you learn the arts and skill of bareboating in the Virgins.  Depending on your previous experience, you should be ready to rent a bareboat after one to three weeks aboard the Bel Ami.
